AAPSU demands appointment of separate Education Commissioner

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has demanded immediate appointment of an independent Education Commissioner for smooth functioning.

“We being the apex students’ organization of the state feel that an important department like Education should have a separate Commissioner for constant and continuous monitoring of every activity of the department,” AAPSU, in its memorandum to Education Minister said.

Besides holding the charge of Commissioner, Education the present incumbent is also in charge of a few more departments which increased his work load. The department needs a Commissioner of its own, who can devote full time to the Department,” the memorandum said and hoped the Education Minister will look into the matter seriously.

Union appeals authority to acquire whole building

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: In a meeting with the managing director of APIDFC on Friday here regarding the early opening of Arunachal Bhawan in Mumbai, Arunachal Students’ Union of Mumbai and Arunachal Students Welfare Association of Pune had appealed to the authority for maximum living space for students and patients in the Bhawan. It said that as per the lease agreement between APIDFC and builder (US Roofs Ltd) eight rooms and a cafeteria will be allocated to Arunachal Bhawan and rest will be used by the builder for 60 years. Students organizations said mere allocation of eight rooms will not be able to accommodate students and patients specially cancer patients coming to Mumbai. It requested the authority to acquire the whole building for the construction of the Bhawan.

Non-electrification of Silsango circle resented

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: The All Silsango Circle Youth Association (ASCYA) has urged the Chief Engineer (E), Western Zone for the early electrification in Silsango circle of Papum Pare district.

In a letter addressed to the CE, the association stated, the work for electrifying the circle was taken up on tender basis three years back, but it is yet to be completed.

Electrical line connection done in every household of the area and placing of transformers in various locations have all gone in vain with no electricity supply in the area, the letter further said.

Dolo to represent India in Nigeria

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: Deputy Director of Rural Development Kompu Dolo is representing India to participate in the 20 days training at Agriculture and Rural Management Institute (ARMTI) in Llorin, Nigeria (South Africa) which is scheduled to be commenced from 17th June 2013. The twenty days training is being organized by Afro-Asia Rural Development Organization, New Delhi. Dolo is the lone candidate selected to represent India, said a release.

AVP organizes tree plantation prog

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: Arunachal Vikash Parishad (AVP) Upper Subansiri unit organized a tree plantation program at Daporijo Central Namlo premises on June six last.

Over 75 members from various Namlos in the district planted medicinal, ceremonial and decorative saplings.

Inaugurating the program, Range Forest Officer Taken Muri, explained the need for preservation of medicinal plants and their uses in curing various diseases. He suggested Namlo authorities to create special plot in every Namlo for plantation of various medicinal plants.

Nacho EAC Taga Ekke explained the usefulness of few medicinal plants in curing various diseases.

Various medicinal plants and their function in treating various diseases were displayed to the gathering by the AVP workers. Saplings of the various herbal plants were distributed to various Namlos of the district for plantation.

AVP’s state organizing secretary Sandeep Kavishwar also attended the program.

BJYM team leaves for Delhi

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: A three-member team of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Arunachal Pradesh unit has left for New Delhi today to attend the national executive meeting of the BJYM to be held on June 13 and 14 at New Delhi. The team includes BJYM state unit president Dug Saha, general secretaries Hinium Tachu and Tomi Haider.

DDSE urged to streamline school managements

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: Highlighting the various problems being faced by the students of West Siang district, the Galo Students’ Union (GSU) in a representation addressed to the West Siang district DDSE said that school authorities have been charging exorbitant school fees from poor students in violation of the guideline of the Right to Education (RTE). Alleging mis-management of mid-day meal scheme in various schools, the GSU further said that the school uniform meant for the students do not reach to the actual beneficiaries. It urged the DDSE to look into all the problems.

Social service conducted

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: A social service programme was conducted at Municipal Ward no. 3 namely SRPL Colony near Chandranagar Petrol Pump here today.

It was aimed at restoring the road connectivity between SRPL colony to Chandranagar and Gohpur. Led by the ward councilor Takap Tagru, many senior leaders, youths, general public as well as women groups participated in the restoration programme.

Class X, XII toppers felicitated

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: Murh-Hatey Academic Development Society (MADS) has felicitated toppers of class X and XII Board Examination 2012-13 belonging to Bamang clan to encourage them towards higher achievements in a function at Naharlagun today. Talangriang-Tali road damaged

ITANAGAR, June 8: All Nyori Development Committee said that PWD road from Talangriang to Tali of Kurung Kumey District has been damaged by landslides due to incessant rain.

The committee appealed to the PWD to clear blockade immediately as the delayed renovation work may create inconvenience to the people of the area in the monsoon season.

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma asked the security forces to help instill a sense of security among the people of trouble-torn Tirap district and suggested for organizing more programs, like army mela, sadbhavana projects, medical camps etc by army to improve civil-military ties.

Addressing a huge gathering at Khonsa main ground today, the Governor appealed to the people to stand united against people with vested interests for development. The Governor assured his all support in fighting anti-national and anti social elements and said that concrete efforts should be made to bring back misguided youth into the national mainstream.

Earlier, the Governor flagged off the ‘Shiksha Ka Haq Abhiyan’ Rath and launched the Education Awareness Mission. He expressed confidence that the Rath will carry the message of ‘Right to Education’ to nook and corner of the district.

The Governor urged the teachers, elites of the society, Gaon Burahs and parents to ensure that every child gets free elementary education and drop out of school get re-admitted, he added.

Pointing out that Tirap has the lowest female literacy rate in the State, the Governor stressed the need to educate girl child because educating a girl child means educating a family.

Speaking on the occasion, Legislative Assembly Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong said that the Governor’s special attention towards the district will bring peace and development to the district.

Local MLA Kamthok Lowang also addressed the gathering.

Earlier, Tirap Deputy Commissioner Sachin Shinde apprised the Governor about law and order and development scenarios of the district. He also highlighted the several new initiatives of the district administration.

The First lady of the State Jyotsna Sharma released the Namsang Borduria Fund Trust souvenir titled ‘Tirap’ on the occasion.

A colourful cultural item was presented by Nocte and Wancho cultural troupes.

Later, the first couple visited stalls which were put up by district administration, NGOs and Madras Regiment of the Army as a part of the event at the ground. During his day-long visit, the Governor also addressed the district officials in the DC’s office and asked them to take extra care to ensure that people oriented programmes are implemented in true letter and spirit. The infrastructure projects should be completed within time frame and highest quality standards should be maintained. He reviewed the development projects in the district especially in the sphere of road communication and infrastructure.

The District Officers apprised the Governor of the problems in their respective sectors, like shortage of medical officers, accommodations for teachers and inadequate funds for agriculture and horticulture activities.

Later, the Governor accompanied by the First lady and Secretary to Governor Ankur Garg visited Ramakrishna Sarada Mission School, Khonsa and interacted with the students and Mataji. He advised the students to learn good human values and spread the message to the society. He also encouraged them to be sincere and work hard for a bright future.

The Governor laid the foundation stone of a 3 lakh litre Rain Water Harvesting project in the school campus and announced five solar water heaters of 1000 litre capacity for the students in their hostels as a token of love. PRO to Raj Bhawan

NERIST director appeals all to act in greater interest of student

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: Reacting to recent demands of some NGOs, including withdrawal of a pending case against a particular individual and some recruitment issues, the Director of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) appealed all to act in greater interest of students.

Students being the raison d'etre, the Director in a press statement said that such demands will only adversely affect their interest and defame the Institute for no reason.

Drawing parallel to another agitation about a month back that almost led to cancellation of NEE-2013, he said that this kind of agitation cannot be in the interest of the people of this state.

“NERIST being a technical university has primary objective of imparting quality education to produce quality technical manpower for NE first, and rest of the country and the globe thereafter,” he said.

Functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the Institute is bound to follow the rules set by the former be it for imparting education, making recruitments against vacancies or discharging administrative responsibilities, the Director said.

“Any interference in internal matters of the institute or to pressurize the authorities to make exceptions for particular persons or groups cannot be in the interest of students and the administrative ministry will never accept such demands”, he added.

The Director lauded the positive role played by the students to this end and in dissuading unjust demands. He also praised the members of the Local Advisory Body for their constructive role.

Referring to production of some internal documents by some NGOs in recent past, he felt that role of insiders need examination.

“Ministry is aware of it and the developments are under close scrutiny,” he said.

“Similarly, making selective demands for employment could stem from ulterior motives to destabilize a particular institute while ignoring genuine interest of the people of the state which obviously could be better served by newer institutions where such opportunities exist now.” The Director hoped that the state administration will act in an apt manner to restore law and order, provide security and protect broader objective of teaching-learning process of this oldest and reputed technical university of the state.

Bandh looms over Capital with no breakthrough in teenager murder case

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: The 12-hour bandh call proposed by All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) on June 11 is on the brink of realization with no breakthrough in the Bomjen Gapak murder case. 12 days have passed since the teenager was murdered at Legi Complex here on the wee hours of May 27 last and the police are nowhere near finding the culprit who was responsible for the murder.

ANSU, on June 4 last, had demanded for immediate appointment of an independent Home Minister, immediate arrest of culprits involved in the murder of Bomjen Gapak and status report on Tongam Rina attempt to murder case to be made public on or before June 10 failing which it threatened to launch the 12-hour capital bandh.

The Capital police appear to be baffled by the case; however it must be said that they have made quite an effort to gather evidences with not much help to solve the case.

“There is no lead yet,” informed OC PS Itanagar Tabi Bage.

“We have been interrogating the boys involved in the incident but due to the lack of cooperation from their side, we have not been able to gather any information so far,” he said adding, “we are now trying to review the case.”

Project site advocacy on HIV/AIDS

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: One day advocacy and sensitisation program on HIV/AIDS for the officers and officials of Patel Engineers of Munna Camp, West Kameng was organised on June 5.

Interacting with officials of Patel Engineers, Arunachal Pradesh AIDS Control Society (APSACS) Deputy Director (IEC) Tashor Pali urged them to mainstream HIV/AIDS in the company’s activity as part of Corporate Social Responsibility so that the employees of the company remain safe from HIV.

He also highlighted the vulnerability of company’s workers to HIV while educating the workers about the disease.

AGM of the company Lt.Col (Retd), RJ Srinivasa while appreciating APSACS for the initiative urged the employees to remain aware about HIV so that they remain healthy and safe from the disease.

Over 40 people took part in the meeting.

P Varu, Regional Communication Officer, NERO-NACO Guwahati also interacted with the top officials of the company during the programme.

Similar programme was also organised at Kimi with NEEPCO officers and officials under Kameng Hydro Power Project on June 3

The Regional Communication Officer, NERO-NACO, attending the programme as the resource person highlighted the HIV work place policy for prevention, care and treatment for staff members and spouses working in the project site. He also explained how HIV programme can be integrated in existing training programmes and refresher course of the company without incurring any extra budget.

The APSACS Deputy Director (IEC) through PowerPoint presentation explained the various modes of HIV/AIDS transmission and their preventive measures.

M Barua, AGM, NEEPCO asked his employees to remain aware about the disease.

More than 40 employees took part in the meeting.

The advocacy programme is being conducted as a part of HIV mainstreaming with Hydro Power developers in Arunachal Pradesh.

AAPSU urges Govt to implement sports policy in letter and spirit

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: With Arunachalee sports persons proving their mettle globally to win laurels for India, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union and the All Nyishi Students’ Union members played a friendly football match at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here Saturday to send a louder message to the youth about state’s potential in the sector.

State’s noted weightlifters Jimjang Deru, Lalu Taku and Sambu Lapung made India proud by winning nine medals (5 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze) at the 15th Asian Youth Weightlifting Championship that concluded at Doha in Katar recently. It would be prudent for the state government to immediately announce cash incentive for such golden players of the state, AAPSU President Kamta Lapung suggested in a statement.

Referring to the sports policy of the state government, Lapung said that policy does not make a sports person but facilitates the hidden talent to get exposure and the identified one to shine.

“It would be unwise to expect anything without hard work, consistency with perseverance in any branch of games and sports. The youth have huge potential which could benefit them and the nation if they come forward with commitment”, he reasoned. However, Lapung urged the state government to implement the sports policy in letter and spirit to develop adequate infrastructures throughout the state, recruit sports persons under 5% reserved quota and offer incentives as a policy to Arunachalee players those who win medals at national and international levels.

However, ANSU with young players led by president Sika Gapak (Captain) trounced the elderly APPSU team headed by president Lapung (Captain) by 4-1 goal, the statement added.

SIRD conducts training for Panchayat officials

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: The week-long training on Panchayat Enterprise Suite (PES) Applications conducted by State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) under e-Panchayat for State Panchayat Officials concluded here today.

The training has mainly focused on Plan Plus, ActionSoft and PRIA Soft which are most important Applications of PES Software.

The Resource Persons from NIC Delhi Siddhartha Chakraborti and Vikas Sakya imparted the training to the Panchayat officials and SPMU/DPMU”.

This is a Mission Mode Project (MMP) under National e-Governance, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, GoI, to make the planning and accounting of Panchayat schemes online so that Ministry can access to the functioning of the Panchayats in the state.

Certificates to the participating officials were presented by SIRD Director Nyabin Ete. The training was sponsored by Department of Panchayati Raj, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with NIC and SIRD.

KVK officer narrates success story of a maize farmer

ITANAGAR, Jun 08: A Kirankumar Singh, in-charge of National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of West Siang district visited different farmers’ fields to monitor the progress and other works to be carried out under the project yesterday.

Singh, who is also the programme coordinator in-charge of the KVK, interacted with the farmers in their respective field and advocated different control measures for different problems faced by them in growing crops.

Singh expressed his satisfaction to Ikar Gara of Padi village, who has grown maize and harvested his crop escaping heavy loss that is generally incurred if grown in normal season.

He has executed all as per instructions given by Singh and successfully harvested the crop and earned good amount from it.

He grew maize covering an area of 0.5 ha with plant population of 41,000-42,000 with spacing of 60 cm ´ 20 cm. The crops were sown in the first week of February and harvested during the month of May this year.

The crop was grown luxuriantly without any nutrient deficiencies during the growing period. The average height of the plant was recorded 5.5-6.0 ft. and the number of cobs ranged from 1.5 per plant producing about 61,500 cobs (approx).

The length of the cobs ranged from 20-25 cm and 3.0-3.5 cm in diameter weighing 200 to 365 gm/cob. He earned Rs. 82,000 to Rs 90,000 by selling each cob for Rs. 2 to Rs 2.50 in local markets with minimum investment. The seeds were supplied by KVK West Siang, Basar.
